1. Les Mis rables

Most people planning a trip to the West End to catch a musical will at least have heard this name before, and that s because Les Mis rables is the longest-running musical here. It s well worth getting tickets for this one when you book your Hyde Park hotel. London musicals come in all shapes and sizes, but this is an absolute classic. It is based on Victor Hugo s novel about France in the 19th century and combines excitement, love and tragedy. It is playing at the Queen s Theatre on Shaftsbury Avenue.

2. Wicked

Wicked only arrived in the West End in 2006, but it certainly made a splash! It recorded the biggest ever opening in the West End s history. Based on the book by Gregory Maguire, it tells the story of The Wicked Witch of the West, before the events of The Wizard of Oz. It is currently playing at the London Apollo Victoria Theatre.

3. The Lion King

When the Lion King movie became one of Disney s biggest ever hits at the box office, it was only a matter of time before it transferred to the stage. Despite being based on a cartoon, and having an all-animal cast, the musical became a huge hit – thanks in part to the incredible costumes that bring it to life, and of course the great songs. Anyone who has seen the film will love seeing the show in real life, making this one of the top choices to check out when you stay in a Hyde Park hotel. London s Lyceum Theatre on Wellington Street is where you ll catch this one.
