5-year old American girl dies after visiting the dentist

Friday, September 29, 2006

Diamond Brownridge, a 5-year old girl from Chicago, Illinois, has died after a visit to the dentist. Children’s Memorial Hospital officials say that the girl was rushed to the hospital when she never woke up after being sedated for a dental procedure. She had been in a coma, on life support, since being admitted to the hospital early in the weekend.

“She passed very peacefully and beautifully,” said the hospital in a statement that the family issued.

Ommettress Travis, the mother of the girl, was asked not to remain inside the room while dentists were operating on the girl to repair two cavities and to have at least two caps replaced. Travis says after thirty minutes she was asked to come back in and found Brownridge not breathing, in the dentist chair.

Hicham Riba, a specialist and professional in anesthesia, who was also licensed, was the dentist in charge of the procedure.

“My family and I are so sad. May God bless Diamond and her family. Every time you have a tragedy like this, you pray more. I don’t think I will ever go back to a normal life after an experience like this,” Riba said in a statement on Wednesday, September 28.

According to the family, the girl had been given at least a triple dose of medicine that sedated her. Those drugs include: nitrous oxide gas, a single dose of an “oral agent” and an IV.

A judge has ordered that all equipment and materials used during the operation be protected and examined. The girl’s medical records have also been ordered to be examined.

There is no word on whether or not any charges will be filed against Riba or any of the dentist’s staff.

Five police officers killed in Dallas, Texas during sniper attack

Sunday, July 10, 2016

On Thursday, five police officers were killed and seven were injured after a sniper attacked a public protest march in downtown Dallas, Texas. Sources indicate at least three other people were taken into custody for questioning relating to the attack. The march was held to protest the shooting deaths of Alton Sterling in Louisiana and Philando Castile in Minnesota during engagements with police officers.

Police identified 25-year-old Micah Johnson as the suspect. Johnson had previously served in the US army, and police reported he said he wanted to exact revenge upon police officers after news of Sterling and Castile’s deaths. Ammunition and weapons were found inside Johnson’s home. Dallas Police reported the policemen were shot at from a height. Officials said two civilians were also injured in the attack.

Micah Johnson served for the United States Army Reserve from 2009 until early 2015, including a tour of Afghanistan. Johnson had no criminal record. His attack was reported to be a lone mission.

After the attack earlier on Thursday, police killed Micah Johnson in El Centro College’s parking lot by a bomb explosion.

Hillary Clinton, 2016 United States presidential election candidate and favorite for the Democratic nomination this July, said: “There is too much violence, too much hate, too much senseless killing, too many people dead who shouldn’t be. No-one has all the answers. We have to find them together.”

After Johnson was killed, Mike Rawlings, Dallas’ mayor, said “We believe now the city is safe”.

Aston Villa defeat Central Coast Mariners to win Hong Kong Soccer 7’s tournament

Tuesday, May 29, 2007

Aston Villa Football Club of England has defeated Central Coast Mariners Football Club of Australia by a scoreline of 1–0 in the final to win the Hong Kong Soccer 7’s tournament.

Mark Albrighton scored a ‘wonder strike’ in the seventh minute of the match, whilst on the counter-attack. Villa held out a fatiguing Mariners’ side for the rest of the match to win by the only goal of the match.

The competition, hosted by Hong Kong FC at their stadium complex, is an invitation-entry tournament. It comprises a round-robin group stage followed by a knock-out finals series.

The Mariners defeated Villa 2–0 in their Group D fixture earlier in the tournament, courtesy of a double to striker Matt Simon.

Central Coast, who famously defeated English Premier League heavyweights Manchester United in their previous tournament invitation in 2005, defeated Villa, hosts Hong Kong FC and City University of Hong Kong in the group stages. They then defeated Arsenal in the quarter-finals 2–0, and Happy Valley 5–4 on penalties after scores were locked at 1–1 after extra time.

Aston Villa defeated both Urawa Red Diamonds and PSV Eindhoven in the quarter- and semi-finals, after progressing second from Group D behind the Mariners. PSV were the team that knocked Central Coast out of the 2005 Soccer 7’s tournament, when they defeated the Mariners in the semi-finals.

Replacing Cpap Supplies After Summer

Replacing CPAP Supplies After Summer

by

Chris Vasta

Now that summer is at its end, it is a good time to replace some of your CPAP supplies and equipment. After the last few months of traveling, dust and pollen, supplies such as tubing, filters, and mask cushions need changing. While replacing your CPAP supplies should adhere to a regular replacement schedule to maximize their effectiveness, it is especially important after the summer months. Many people travel during the summer months. Depending on where you travel to, there can be a higher level of contaminants in the air, which would make your CPAP tubing and filters dirtier than normal. It is always recommended to clean your supplies on a regular basis, but replacing worn and dirty parts is always an option. You should regularly check the state of your equipment to see if replacement is necessary. If your tubing is worn, frayed and discolored, it should be replaced; remember, everything that comes through the tube is being breathed into your lungs.CPAP tubing should be replaced at regular 6 to 9 month intervals regardless, but it is especially important after the summer months.During summer, people tend to sweat more, which puts added strain on your CPAP mask cushion. The oils in your skin can break down the cushions on your mask, which makes cleaning even more important. However, even with regular cleaning, the mask cushions can break down, which has an adverse effect on the CPAP mask s seal.A simple rule of thumb: If you are not getting a proper seal, then you are not getting proper sleep therapy.CPAP mask cushions should be replaced roughly every 3 months. Additionally, CPAP mask headgear should be replaced every 6 months. After prolonged use, the headgear becomes stretched, which also can affect the comfort of your mask as well as the seal it provides. The filters in your CPAP machine require special attention during the summer months. There is an increase of pollen in the air during summer, which will be caught in your filters. While filters should be replaced on a regular basis, many patients find that they need to replace the filters more often during times when pollen is in the air. It is always a good idea to check your filters on a regular basis to see if they need to be changed. Again, CPAP filters are the primary defense against contaminants being breathed into your body.If the filter is in poor condition, nothing will stop it from getting into your tubing, mask and lungs. The end of summer is a perfect time to check the status of your CPAP machine and supplies to see if they should be replaced. If anything looks worn, stretched, or dirty even after cleaning, you should replace them immediately to insure continued sleep therapy comfort.

2008 YODEX Review: Varied competitions, Vast creations

Monday, May 26, 2008

The 27th Young Designers’ Exhibition 2008, recognized by the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID) as the largest show of student creations, recently ended Sunday May 18. It was held at the Taipei World Trade Center. Improvements and expansions were seen with 107 academical and industrial units. Different design competitions participated and showcased their products and also received awards.

It’s no doubt that companies related to design and cultural industries want to discover creative talents from academical units in this exhibition. However, most companies still try to showcase different conceptional and applicative products in order to promote Taiwan’s designs into the world market. A typical example is Fora Series, a photo-voltaic product series by the Tsann Kuen Trans-nation Group.

Before entering into their careers, students participated in this show and showcased varied styles that differ from the usual industrial businesspeople. To get more opportunities and in order to interact with the design and cultural industries, students also participated in vast competitions and tried to get the top places. Some students also tried to design conceptional products in conjunction with industrial designs, especially in some design competitions.

In summary, not only did the 2008 YODEX, have companies which can discover talents and showcase achievements of industrial design in the exhibition, but students can make their stages to showcase excellences from their creations in several competitions related to YODEX.

Millions of old New Zealand coins still to be handed in

Wednesday, October 25, 2006

On November 1, 2006 the old five, ten, twenty and fifty cent coins will be illegal tender, but the Reserve Bank of New Zealand says there are still at least 100 million still to be returned.

According to the Reserve Bank, most of the old coins have been lost in drains or buried in rubbish. “We think there is still another 100 million sitting around in people’s homes,” Brian Lang, currency manger for the Reserve Bank, said.

Lang said: “So far, just over 280 million coins have been returned, but there are more out there. Since 1967 the Reserve Bank has issued more than a billion of the old ‘silver’ coins. So if you don’t want to be stuck with loads of old coin – there’s never been a better time to empty your coin jars, sweep the car glove box and rummage behind the couch cushions.”

The coins still awaiting to be handed in, by either spending them, taking them to a bank or donating them to charity, are estimated to be worth between NZ$5 million and $50 million.

“A last-minute burst of publicity may convince people to bring the coins in. It’s a bit of a hassle though. Human nature being what it is, people just don’t care,” Lang said. The Karori Wildlife Sanctuary located in Wellington say that they have collected over $9,000 in old coins. Sanctuary spokesman, Alan Dicks said: “The campaign was particularly fitting because the old coins depicted tuataras and kiwis, both of which can be found living at the sanctuary. The money will go towards supporting general ecological restoration of the sanctuary. We want to get over ten grand, but the more the better.”

Lang said: “Though the coins will no longer be legal tender, banks will continue to exchange them until at least the end of the year,” and the Reserve Bank will always exchange them. “We are still getting people coming in with two-dollar notes,” Lang added.

Major Things That Luggage Distributors Must Take Into Account

Major Things That Luggage Distributors Must Take into Account

Luggage distributors must always make sure that the products that they are offering will definitely match the needs of their clients. Also, whilst it is true that there are thousands in the world who’ll certainly purchase bags at one time in their lives, these are not really a thing that they’d change or replace. Unless of course these individuals required larger or maybe more big bags or that the ones they’ve are already worn out and needed replacement, then they are not going to buy new luggage. Dimensions

Luggage distributors need to sell bags that are roomy and can house lots of things with all the needed pockets as well as sleeves within the bag. The reason behind this is that elderly vacationers will have trouble hoisting bigger, pushing and also pulling bigger and taller luggage as compared to those that are shorter and much more stable.

Movability

Many people who travel value their time the most and would appreciate bags that are quite simple to use.
